Mamaga Akosua extends feeding programme in Ho municipality

February 14, 2010
Saviefe-Agorkpo (V/R), Feb. 14, GNA-Mamaga Ngoryifiaga Akosua I, Paramount Queen of Sasadu, has extended a School Feeding Programme she initiated to Saviefe-Agorkpo United Primary School in the Ho Municipality.

The project worth 10,000 cedis for a year is a sequel to the Peace Keeping School Feeding project being implemented for basic schools in Alavanyo and a Roman Catholic Primary School in Nkonya worth 120,000 cedis for a period of ten-years.

Launching the programme, Mamaga Akosua, a German, known as Cornelia von Wulfing said her motivation and challenge was to extend the school feeding project to all Sasadu communities comprising Saviefe, Akrofu, Sovie and Alavanyo.

She said nutrition was crucial in the formative or developmental stages of the growing child stressing that food related deficiencies and malnutrition could be an anticlimax to any government's developmental aspiration.

Mamaga Akosua said a balanced diet was imperative towards avoiding the mistakes of the adult population who suffer from diet-related ailments such as diabetes and hypertension, afflicting about 65 percent of the population.

She was proud to be complementing government's efforts in this area with financial assistance from Mr. Thomas Steinbicker, a Maltese-based German Philanthropist.

Togbega Amankwata III, Paramount Chief of Saviefe, thanked Mamaga Akosua for her benevolence adding, it would take a huge financial burden off the shoulders of parents and guardians.

He commended government for its bravery in streamlining the capitation grant, school feeding programme and new additions like the free school uniform and exercise books regimes.

Togbega Amankwata called for assistance towards the reconstruction of a new Junior High School and Kindergarten blocks to replace the Century old dilapidated block.

Mr. Jasper Kwaku Katso, Assistant Headteacher of United Primary School, indicated that the project to benefit about 300 pupils would impact positively on teaching, learning and general health of pupils.

A seven-member Implementation Committee was inaugurated to exercise oversight responsibility over the project.
